La dernière journée commença par une longue descente vers la vallée de la rivière Huae vu Mau Mat, avec au passage une superbe cascade.
Cette rivière, pleine de cascades, est encore assez forte même en cette fin de saison des pluies. Elle serpente entre rochers et falaises. Et le chemin ancien suit le trajet le plus simple. Je n’ai pas compté tous les gués, mais il y en a bien eu 50. Profond, avec de l’eau au dessus de la ceinture, ou glissant avec les rochers et le courant parfois très fort. Sans mon bâton, je serais tombé 10 fois dans l’ eau.
Après 3 bonnes heures de marche, comme des explorateurs d »un pays vierge, nous arrivons à un passage entre deux falaises. Les deux options étaient de passer à gué sur plusieurs centaines de mètres, où de grimper la montagne. Mon guide, peu sur de lui, s’engagea dans la rivière, mais revint en arrière. Il connaissait bien le passage dans sa jeunesse, un de ses amis y avait fait une chute mortelle.
Le chemin très difficile et dangereux fût régulièrement ponctué de ‘it’ s your last adventure’, que je comprenais comme dernière de la journée.
